McCREADIE RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE, CZYMMEK PICKS UP FIRST AT CANANDAIGUA

CANANDAIGUA, NY...Tim McCreadie, from Watertown, NY, picked up his second Canandaigua Speedway DIRT Modified feature win of the year last Saturday, July 21. The crowd was excited for Wade Czymmek, from nearby Farmington, who earned his first ever Canandaigua Speedway Sportsman feature win. Ransomville's Jipp Ortiz won his third Pro-Stock feature while Mike Welch and Nick Rizzo earned the two Street Stock features on Sweeteners Plus and Farnsworth Chevrolet-Oldsmobile and Cadillac night.

Dave Axton took the lead in the 35-lap Modified main event from the pole. On lap five the first yellow flew when Bob McCreadie got into the lose dirt on the high side of the third turn. He was then hit by Vic Coffey. McCreadie was able to maintain control and drive into the pits. Coffey's car was extensively damaged, but his crew was able to sent him back onto the track immediately.

The restart saw the third and fourth place runners, Darryl Ruggles and Chuck Hebing, come together in the second turn, both spinning out. Axton was still able to maintain his lead, but he now had Tim McCreadie in second.

One more yellow for debris in the first turn and then McCreadie passed Axton on the lap eight restart. McCreadie made his pass using the faster high grove around turns three and four. Billy Decker followed suit, passing Axton on the next circuit. Mccreadie then built up a fifteen car advantage on Decker, as Pat Ward took third, with Gary Tomkins in fourth. Axton dropped from the race on lap 10.

On lap 17 the yellow flew when Scott Ridley's number 8 went up in a cloud of blue smoke in the second turn. Just short of the halfway point both McCreadie and Decker had to restart the race side-by-side. McCreadie was up to the challenge and maintained the lead. However, Gary Tomkins was able to pass Decker for second.

The fifth place runner, Ron Smoker seemed to be on the prowl now as he attempted to move into fourth past Pat Ward. He also found himself in a battle with Steve Paine to maintain the fifth position. All of that ended under yellow as Smoker's machine broke exiting the fourth turn on lap 24.

McCreadie now had to be award of Paine, who was running third after passing Decker on the restart. Paine then took second from Tomkins three laps later. By then McCreadie had built himself enough of a cushion to take the victory. Paine came home second followed by Tomkins, Decker and Danny Johnson, who passed Ward for the top five with five laps remaining in the race.

The 20-lap DIRT Sportsman feature saw pole sitter Scott Joy take the lead over outside pole sitter Wade Czymmek. One lap into the race, Czymmek was able to pass Joy for the lead. A wild scramble in the second turn saw positions four back change, but no yellow flew.

Czymmek had built up a ten car lead over Ricky VanNeil, Karl Comfort, Eldon Payne Jr. and Clay Parmelee when the first yellow flew on lap 13. Bob Henry jr. found himself spun in the fourth turn as Dan Wiesner quickly maneuvered through the infield grass and back onto the track on the front stretch.

The restart saw a penalty levied on Henry Jr. for jumping a number of cars. Still Czymmek set the pace. On lap 16 the yellow flew when top contender, Joe Beyea suffered a flat left rear tire. Mike Majors looped his number 00 in the first turn on lap 17 for the next yellow.

This time the restart saw Comfort, running second, over extend his car, spinning into the inside of the second turn and at the same time both Steve Gray and Bill Englert got together in the middle of the back stretch. This set up a one lap dash to the checkers.

Czymmek held off Eldon Payne Jr. for the win. Parmelee finished third followed by Justin Haers and David Allen to round out the top five.

The 20-lap Pro-Stock feature saw four different leaders. Zach Shove was the early leader until John Rutkowski passed him for the lead on lap two. Rutkowski, in the former Les Whyte machine, then held the lead until lap four when Billy Brown passed him. Shove retook the top spot on lap seven as Jipp Ortiz moved into second. On lap nine Ortiz made his move to permanently take the lead.

Only one yellow flag slowed the race, that coming on lap 16 for debris in the second turn.

Ortiz took the victory by nine car lengths over Shove, Chad Homan, Brown and Lee Burnett.

The two 10-lap Street Stock features were both crash-fests. Mike Welch pulled out the victory in the first 10 lapper. Nick Rizzo beat out Richard Briggs in a photo finish in the second 10 lapper. It was Rizzo's first win at Canandaigua Speedway.
