CANANDAIGUA WET AGAIN

CANANDAIGUA, NY...Rains began to fall after all but one heat race remained to be run last Saturday at Canandaigua Speedway. The rains fell during the running od the second Modified heat race.

"The rain hit in the first turn as the field charged into that curve," stated handicapper Gary Spaid. "The leader, Scott Ridley lost traction and looped off the track surface, ending the race on lap six of eight."

Pro-stock heat races were won by Wayne Ellison and Lee Burnett. The three sportsman heats went to Mike Majors, John Plumb and Ricky VanNeil. The first modified heat went to Dave Axton and Ridley collected the victory for the second heat. Of course this was all for nothing as the show had not reached the completion.

Officials tried to wait out the storm and the skies brighten for a while adding hope the racing would resume. However another show hit around 8:25 ending any hope to regroup. Rain checks will be honored this Saturday.

On hand was the new general manager, Jeff Farney. Farney, the long time pit steward at the track was hired to take the position after temporary general manger Bill McNabb asked to leave. McNabb will stay for a couple of weeks to help Farney learn the ropes in the tower.

On tap Saturday will be a complete program of Modified, Sportsman, Pro-stocks and Street Stocks, plus the popular Ladies Races. Race time will be at 7 p.m. sharp with pit gates opening promptly at 4:30 p.m..
