RAIN ONCE AGAIN DELAYS FEATURE FRENZY AT CANANDAIGUA SPEEDWAY CANANDAIGUA, NY.....For the third straight week track officials will be trying to beat the rain when Canandaigua Speedway once again offers it's fans six feature races, all for the price of a regular show! HEP Sales sponsors a big night of auto racing planned at the Ontario County Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 22 with the first event beginning promptly at 7pm. The Saturday evening card carries a customary program of DIRT Modified, Sportsman, Pro Stock and Street Stock action yet early season rain has added two additional feature races. Originally scheduled to make up events on May 8 and then again on May 15 before all day rains twice forced track officials into postponement, both the Modified and Street Stock divisions will now run two features during the May 22 program. With that schedule change, and the big Memorial Day show on tap, double Sportsman and Pro Stock main events have now been pushed back to June 5 along with a full line-up of Modified and Street Stock activity. With just one show in the '04 record book, long-time Canandaigua regular Vic Coffey tops the early season points chart after capturing the April 24 Modified opener. Coffey turned back a late race rally by Ron Smoker in the 50-lap lid-lifter to score his sixth career big-block victory at the popular 'Land of Legends' speedplant. Multi-time track champions Steve Paine and Danny Johnson chased the frontrunners across the line with loyal low-buck pilot Ray Bliss rounding out the top-five. Former Mr. DIRT Sportsman titlist Randy Chrysler (10th) was the top small-block finisher on opening night to rank first on the 358-Modified points chart heading into the mid-May showdown. Paul Guererri (Sportsman), Frank Guererri,Jr. (Pro Stock) and Blane Smith (Street Stock) also captured checkered flags during the first night of competition to sit atop their respective point standings. Canandaigua stages it's second special of the year to close out the month of racing in Ontario County. The big 50-lap Taney Memorial for DIRT Modifieds highlights the traditional Memorial Day Weekend card along with the Patriot Sprints in their first of two appearances at the Routes 5&20 oval in 2004. Pro Stocks and Street Stocks join the May 29 agenda while the Sportsman will be away contending for Canandaigua points in a special holiday event at nearby Black Rock Speedway in Dundee.
