CANANDAIGUA FALLS TO RAIN CANANDAIGUA, NY...Officials made a valiant effort to try and run last Saturday at Canandaigua Speedway, but high humidity and an early evening rain storm made the attempt fruitless. Finally at 10:15 p.m., after every effort was made to run the track in and make it safe, the officials tossed in the towel. "I would like to say we tried our best for our fans," stated general manager Jeff Farney. "The sportsman heats were the tell tale sign to us that we just were not going to make it, as well as provide a Canandaigua style race night for our fans." Farney was referring to the three Sportsman heat races run at less then normal speeds. Justin Henderson, Dan Wiesner and Rob Bussey each won their respective heats. Bussey was able, to reach speeds in the low 70 mph range, far off their normal 85 mph plus averages set down by the Sportsman. "This show is a complete wash out," stated Farney. "Rain checks will be good next Saturday, July 24, or two weeks later on August 7." Jeff continued, "We can not honor them on July 31 as that is the annual Ontario County Fair race date." This Saturday, July 24, the sportsman travel to Black Rock Speedway as part of the pre-season transfer agreement between the two speedways. The Sportsman race at Black Rock will award Canandaigua track points. The absence of the sportsman at Canandaigua will allow added distance and double points shows in both the Pro-Stock and Street Stock divisions. The Street Stocks will be running heats and a consolation race to set up a feature starting field of 24 cars. "I would like to give something back to these guys for their efforts here tonight. When we asked for their help they all came forth to run in the track," Farney added. "I think by adding five laps to each of their features and also paying back the top ten in the Street Stocks, should help show our thanks and help fill the void of not having the Sportsman." Race time this Saturday will be at 7 p.m. sharp. |
