FARNEY SIGNS UP SPONSORS FOR ALL CANANDAIGUA DIVISIONS

CANANDAIGUA, NY.....Jeff Farney has become most familiar on race night at Canandaigua Speedway where he serves as track General Manager.

During the winter months he remains much less visible, yet his behind the scenes efforts prior to the start of the 2004 season at the historic Ontario County Fairgrounds oval will easily be recognized by the competing race teams. Especially at season's end.

While the headline DIRT Modifieds continue to reap the biggest rewards in Canandaigua, Farney has secured corporate backing for the four other classes that fill out the weekly program. The result is a sizable point fund in each companion class made through significant contributions by Randy's Smoke Shop (358-Modified), Pizza Logs (Sportsman), Josh Comp (Pro Stock) and Parts Plus Auto Stores (Street Stock).

"Our big-block teams are definitely some of the best but it takes great racing in all the other divisions to give Canandaigua the reputation as one of the top weekly shows around," said Farney, as he prepared for his third full season directing daily operations at the popular 'Land of Legends' speedplant. "Telling the drivers 'thanks' can only go so far. Offering a bigger cash prize probably means more so establishing a points fund like this is a better way to give teams further incentive."

The 2004 Canandaigua big-block Modified points champion will receive $3,000 and the Sportsman titlist $1,000 from the traditional points fund generated from use of Hoosier Tires and Sunoco Race Fuel. If at least 10 small-block drivers are in competition throughout most of the season, the 358-Modified high-point earner stands to collect $2,000 from the Hoosier-Sunoco pot.

Steve Paine (Mod), Derrick Podsiadlo (358), Paul Guererri (Spt), Jipp Ortiz (Pro) and Mike Welch (Sts) claimed track championships in 2003.

Canandaigua Speedway opens for competition on April 24 while Wed., April 21 has been penciled in as a practice day. Both the April 24 and May 1 shows are slated to begin in the afternoon with heat race qualifiers starting at 4 p.m.

One of the best values in DIRT Motorsports today is a special night in the VIP Tower at Canandaigua Speedway. And only a handful of dates remain open for corporate representatives to reserve their night in the trackside VIP rooms during the 2004 racing season.

Securing tower passes gives individuals the opportunity to experience the heart-pounding thrills and excitement of side-by-side race action at the 'Land of Legends' while enjoying all the comfort and convenience of an enclosed, air-conditioned private spectator room that offers unlimited food and beverages. These special VIP Passes also entitle tower guests optional access to the pit area.

Canandaigua Speedway is located at the Ontario County Fairgrounds on Town Line Road two miles north of routes 5&20 on the east side of the city of Canandaigua. The track is easily accessed from the New York State Thruway exit 43 from the east or exit 44 from the west. For additional information contact Jeff Farney by phone (315/568-8179) or e-mail ().
