RAIN POSTPONES FINGER LAKES SPECIAL TO THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25

CANANDAIGUA, NY..."We so much wanted to finish the night, and the season, off the right way," stated track general manager Jeff Farney. "With the track as wet and as slippery as it is now we just have to reschedule this event."

With just the consolation races and features remaining the rain began to fall at Canandaigua Speedway last Saturday around 7:15 p.m., forcing the officials, following nearly an hour of trying the dry off the speedway, to reschedule the remaining portions of the races to Thursday, September 25.

"We wanted to go with the Friday, September 26, but with the log 10 hour haul to Eldora Speedway the next day, it seemed impractical for the racers," added Farney. "We batted around a number of possible dates and the best we can come up with due the extensive Fall schedules, was that Thursday, the 25th. Race time will be set to begin at 7 p.m. sharp. I am hoping we can get everything left on the schedule over by 9:30 p.m.."

Jeff added," Rain checks will be honored on the 25th, with additional tickets being available at the gates. Will will also have to draw the winning 50-50 ticket so fans should hold their tickets."

Billy Decker, from Unadilla, NY, was the first car on the track to take time and he turned the fast time of 17.852 seconds or 100.829 MPH. Thirty-nine other drivers tried to pry him off the fast time slot but failed. Tim McCreadie came closest with a time of 17.885 seconds, the only other driver to average 100 Mph plus.

Heat wins in the modifieds went to Vic Coffey, Karl Comfort, Chuck Hebing and Steve Paine. Bob McCreadie looked to have the third heat in the bag when he broke exiting the fourth turn on the last lap allowing Hebing to take the win and Bob get relegated back to the consolation race.

During the driver redraw Danny Johnson waited for the second last draw to draw the number one from the redraw box. Brett Hearn, the last to draw was left with the 14th starting position.

In Pro-Stock action Chad Homan, Fred Arden and Patrick Hobbs all won heat races. Twenty-five cars were slated to start the feature.

Thirty-four street stocks were on hand with 30 cars slated to start the main event. Four qualifying heats were won by Adam Depuy, Darren Phippen, Mike Welch and Blane Smith.

Special dashes were run in the Pro-Stocks and Street Stocks to help honor the memory of the late Les Whyte, the Top Gun One. Both dashes were run under extremely poor racing conditions as rain pelted the speedway. Jeremy Clark won the Pro-Stock Dash and received $100 from the Whyte family and friends. Adam Depuy took top honors in the Street Stock dash.

The Pro-Stocks, Street Stocks and Modifieds will all be returning to Canandaigua on Thursday, September 25. The Mid-State Vintage cars are being consulted about their possible return on that date or possibly a special added date in 2004.
