DICK WOLCOTT HONORED BY SPEEDWAY OFFICIALS & FAIRBOARD MEMBERS
CANANDAIGUA, NY...While the annual Ontario County Fair has once again been scheduled for the end of the month, DIRT Motorsports and Fairboard officials have designated the date of Saturday, June 29 to conduct the Dick Wolcott Memorial Championship.
Ontario County Fairboard members join Phelps Cement Products reps in the VIP Tower to enjoy the 35-lap Wolcott Memorial Championship for DIRT Modifieds. A full program of Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Street Stocks make up the 7 p.m. show.
Vying for the Wolcott Championship trophy will be 2000 Mr. DIRT champion and current track points leader Steve Paine from Waterloo, N.Y. In search of a third straight title at the 'Land of Legends,' Paine has captured three feature race checkered flags steering the no. 7x Sweeteners Plus/TEO big-block machine.
One-time winners Gary Tomkins and Tim McCreadie, Vic Coffey and Vince Vitale are top-five point challengers while Billy Decker (2 wins) and Bob McCreadie remain primary contenders in the weekly battle to reach victory lane.
The Sportsman ranks continue to boast great competition with overall Mr. DIRT title contenders Randy Chrysler (3 wins), John Plumb (2) and Eldon Payne,Jr. (1) sitting atop the points chart midway through June. First year regular Chrysler (430 pts) led Plumb (412) followed by Payne (355), Todd Henderson and John Pfeffer.
In Canandaigua's Pro Stock class it's veteran Jon Miller using a track-high five feature wins to hold a commanding leading over Roger Chrysler, Chad Homan, Michael Cooper and first-time winner James Henry. Eighth-place points earner Jipp Ortiz is the only other two-time winner in the track's top full-fender division.
Street Stock points leader Adam DePuy remains the only driver in the top-six without a victory as he stands ahead of Tim Burnell, Nick Rizzo (2), Leroy Lewis, Jared LaBarge and Mike Minutolo (2) on the seasonal chart.
Canandaigua Speedway is located at the Ontario County Fairgrounds just east of the village of Canandaigua on County Road number 10.
The Fairgrounds can be accessed by turning north off Routes 5 and 20 at the WalMart Plaza. The track is just minutes from the NYS Thruway via Exits 43 or 44.
