DECKER WINS MODIFIEDS; CHRYSLER REPEATS IN SPORTSMAN

CANANDAIGUA, NY...Billy Decker, from Unadilla, NY took the 35-lap DIRT Modified feature stating, "This is the time of the year to show what you have and we are trying to show just how good this team is." this was Decker's third win of the year at Canandaigua Speedway.

Randy Chrysler, from Lewiston, NY, bumped his Canandaigua victory total to four in a row, seven total, taking the victory in the 20-lap Sportsman feature. Chad Homan earned his first win the year in the Pro-Stock division, while Mike Minutolo picked up his second in a row, fifth total, in the Street Stocks.

Vince Vitale jumped to the early lead in the 35-lap DIRT Modified feature followed by Ray Bliss Jr., rookie Steve Gray and Scott Ridley. Gray took second on lap two and tried to challenge Vitale but to no avail. Eventual winner, Billy Decker emerged in the top five on lap four, passing Tim McCreadie for fifth. By lap nine, Decker was able to pass track points leader, Steve Paine, for fourth. On lap 11 Decker pulled to the high side of turn four and took second from Gray. Two laps later it was Vitale's turn to be passed. This time Decker used the same move as he had on Gray, high through the fourth turn, to take the lead.

Decker pulled out to a four second lead as a battle for the runner up spot between Gray, Paine, McCreadie and Vitale was under way. Vitale drifted high on lap 19 and dropped back to a distant fifth. Gray now had to hold off McCreadie and Paine, who were swapping spots back-and-forth.

In a race that went green-to-checkers, Gray came home second some 5.2 seconds behind Decker. Paine took third followed by McCreadie and Vitale. The race took just over 12 minutes to complete at an average speed of 84.535 Miles per hour.

In the sportsman feature it looked as if no one was able to get through the third turn. During the first five laps the yellow flew four times, all for accidents or spin-outs in the third turn. On lap six, when the teams finally got straightened around, Wade Czymmek was still the leader followed by Chrysler, Eldon Payne Jr., Todd Henderson and John Plumb.

Chrysler used an outside move on lap thirteen to pull alongside of Czymmek. Czymmek then proceeded to go too low in the second turn and made contact with the inside berm of the track allowing Chrysler to slip by for the lead. the move not only cost Czymmek the lead, but he now found himself in fourth behind Henderson and Payne Jr. also.

Henderson tried in the late stages of the race to catch Chrysler, but settled for second, as Chrysler recorded his fourth win in a row at canandaigua. Henderson finished second followed by Payne Jr., Paul Guererri and Czymmek.

An excited Chrysler danced on the roof of his car in victory lane and pretended to be paddling a boat using the checkers as a paddle. He then thanked all of his crew and friends for their support.

The 20-lap Pro-stock feature saw Randy's brother Roger Chrysler in the early lead. On lap two Chad Homan ducked low in the fourth turn and took the lead. Homan then proceeded to stretch out his lead to over a full straight away, some 5.2 seconds, over the battle for second. A four car battle, behind the leader, saw Chrysler, Daryl Hilkert, James Henry and Kevin Smith all racing in a very tight pack, sometimes three wide. Chrysler held second going into the final lap, but would eventually finish fifth as Hilkert came home in second. Smith worked his car into third with Henry finishing four by inches. It was Homan's first win of the year at Canandaigua.

This race also went green-to-checkers and took just under eight minutes to complete at an average speed of 77.828 miles per hour. Points leader and multi-time feature winner, Jon Miller, recorded the fastest lap of the race on lap five and then one lap later pulled his car into the infield and out of the event.

The 15-lap Street Stock race saw 23 cars answer the call to the feature. Ray Cooper led the first four laps but lost the lead to Mike Minutolo on lap five as Minutolo used the high grove to complete his pass through the third and fourth turns. Blaine Smith, who has recorded two consecutive seconds in two outings made it three finishing directly behind Minutolo. Adam Depuy finished third followed by Cooper and Tim Burnell.

CANANDAIGUA LEGENDS: Charlie Donk took his turn at driving the "Fun Bus" to the delight of the children in the "Kids' Club". The "Fun Bus" stopped in the pits were the children were treated to an autograph session with their favorite drivers before the night of racing got started. "Kids' Club" memberships can be obtained at the track weekly.

This Saturday will be the 159th annual Ontario County Fair Championships as all four divisions will be in action. Taylor Rental of Canandaigua will be in the VIP Booth high above the fourth turn. Race time will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
