DIRTcar NorthEast Regional Points Champions Determined In Two Weeks
Weedsport, NY – August 23, 2022 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director
Just two more weekends remain before the race for supremacy on the DIRTcar Regional Championship circuit is settled in 2022. The chase for valuable points towards the lucrative DIRTcar NorthEast titles comes to a conclusion on Labor Day after five straight months of wheel-to-wheel, paint-trading action at more than 20 tracks.
Pacing the current DIRTcar Racing Regional point charts are Jimmy Phelps (Central), Matt Sheppard (Eastern) and Kevin Bolland (Western) in the Big-Blocks ranks, 358-Modified chauffeurs Yan Bussiere (Northern), David VanHorn (Eastern) and Pete Bicknell (Western), and Chris Higgins (Northern), Shawn Donath (Central) and Don Spatorico (Western) in Sportsman Modified competition.
On the verge of his first career Big-Block track points title at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, Phelps has dominated the Central all season and is third on the list with nine feature wins in 2022. New Egypt front-runner Sheppard with seven feature victories clings to narrow two-point margin over Eastern foe and NorthEast win leader Brett Hearn, while five-time victor and ’07 Tri-City champion Bolland holds his own two-point advantage over Brian Swartzlander out West.
In the Small-Block ranks, division-high winner Bussiere (7 wins) sits comfortably atop the standings up north. In the closest race of all, David VanHorn is just one marker ahead of Chuck McKee with Tim Hindley the third Orange County regular in the Eastern hunt another six points back. Canadian veteran Pete Bicknell is in control on the West side with five feature wins to date.
Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman contender Higgins holds a commanding lead with eight wins to his credit this season while area track point leaders Donath (Fulton) and Jeremy Pitcher (Cayuga County) continue to battle in the Central. Western warrior Spatorico has copped a class-best 11 feature wins to remain in charge coming down to the wire.
In 2022, DIRTcar-sanctioned tracks hosting Big-Block Modifieds, 358-Modifieds and/or Sportsman Modifieds stand divided into three regions with top-15 teams sharing plenty of cash and memberships rewards in each classification: Mod-$20,175; 358 Mod-$14,175; Spt Mod-$10,800. Regional points will be kept separately and have no direct bearing on any individual track points race.
Respective regional titles in the Big-Block, 358-Mod and Sportsman divisions run through Labor Day Weekend with Regional points officially ending on Monday, September 3. In each of the Regional Championships in all three classes, points will be awarded for the best finishes in DIRTcar-sanctioned feature races, with events held at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park counting toward any region in all divisions.
