Round Two For Patriot Sprints On Tap Saturday At Canandaigua Speedway
Canandaigua, NY – August 13, 2022 – Tom Skibinski, Canandaigua Speedway PR Director
Jason Barney will be looking to pull off a summer double when the ASCS Patriot Sprint Car Series makes a return to Canandaigua Speedway on Saturday, August 18 in the second A-Verdi King of CNY stop at the ‘Land of Legends’ in 2022.
The Patriot Sprinters headline a full card at Canandaigua, joining a DIRTcar show of Sportsman Modifieds, Street Stocks and PureStox plus Midstate Vintage Modifieds on Hoosier Tire Stupid Human Tricks Night. Barney won’t have anything up his sleeves when he arrives at the Ontario County Fairgrounds, just 700-horsepower under the hood of his no. 87 winged machine as he looks to collect another $1,500 first-place check in the 25-lap A-Main.
On Saturday spectator gates will swing open at 5 p.m. with the first qualifying heat rolling off the line promptly at 7 o’clock. Pit gates are slated to unlock at 4 p.m. for all competitors.
Canandaigua has already played host to eight prior ASCS Patriot events dating back to 2003 and remains among only two tracks to host the ASCS Patriots at least once every year since that inaugural season. Chuck Hebing and George Suprick have been the most dominant chauffeurs in the past five seasons, each scoring three wins after Tim Barnard captured the Patriot debut in ’03. Trailing Barney under the checkered flag on June 30 were Jared Zimbardi, Jessica Zemken, Bobby Breen and Doug Norrie.

With just three regular point shows remaining on Canandaigua’s schedule, ’03 track champion Paul Guererri has used three feature wins to open up a comfortable lead in the Sportsman standings. Guererri’s nearest challengers are Dan Wiesner with a division-high count of four victories, Loren Lincoln (1 win) and Tim Currier (1), while fifth-place runner Eric Giguere is still in search of his first trip to victory lane this season.
Three-time Canandaigua UMP/DIRTcar Street Stock season champion Mike Welch owns a track-best total of seven victories, including the last four Saturday night shows, with nearly 100 points standing between runner-up and two-time winner Blane Smith.
Second-generation chauffeur Marc Minutolo (2 wins) continues to pace the PureStox at the popular Routes 5&20 oval, holding a commanding lead over Corey Hunt (1 win), Chris Guererri (1), George LaVare Jr. and Ross Lurcock.
When the mighty DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds return to weekend action at the Ontario County Fairgrounds on August 25, the ‘Hurricane’ Steve Paine will be on the verge of sewing up a DIRTcar NorthEast record eighth straight Big-Block track championship. The Paine Motorsports no. 7x Troyer entry has carried him to five feature wins at Canandaigua this season to bring his all-time track total to 79, placing him behind only Alan Johnson (113) and Bob McCreadie (99) on the career win chart.
Now is the time to take advantage of the special 5-PAK ticket packages available for the remaining regular events at Canandaigua and sister track Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y.
