Canandaigua, NY – August 7, 2022 – By Tom Skibinski, Canandaigua Speedway PR Director

DIRTcar Racing NorthEast charter member Canandaigua Speedway hosts the premier Big-Block Modified tour in the country for the 28th consecutive season. August 9 marks the return of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series to the historic Ontario County Fairgrounds oval for round 14 of the ’07 trail which promises to be one of the most competitive ever with DIRT’s best open-wheel drivers coming to town.

The 2022 edition of Thursday Thunder features Twin-50s for the mighty ground-pounding Big-Block Modifieds, with a UMP/DIRTcar Street Stock and PureStox twin-bill filling the mid-week card.

Canandaigua points leader and five-time feature winner Steve Paine will be looking to defend his home soil against all the top Series travelers. Gary Tomkins will be just as hungry as the two-time defending race winner hopes to three-peat in ’07. New Jersey standout Brett Hearn is the current Advance Auto Parts Series front-runner, last pulling into the ‘Land of Legends’ victory lane after a tour triumph in September ’04.

Billy Decker established the single lap record at Canandaigua in an Advance Auto Parts Series event last year when he circled the track in 17.385 seconds (103.538 mph) on Sept. 15. Alan Johnson remains Canandaigua's all-time win leader with 113 DIRTcar Big-Block Modified feature victories and on Thursday will be in search of his first win there in five seasons.

Mike Welch (Street Stock) and Marc Minutolo (PureStox) hold comfortable leads in their respective division. Three-time track points champion Welch’s three-race win streak gives him a track-high total of six while Minutolo has cracked the winner’s circle on two occasions in his first full season at the historic half-miler.

Pit Gates unlock Thursday at 3 p.m. and the main grandstands open at 5 o’clock. Warm-ups will begin at approximately 6:15 p.m. with Big-Block Modified Integra Shocks Time Trials to follow at 6:45 p.m. and the first divisional qualifying heat staged immediately after.

'Live' CyberSeries video and audio internet coverage through www.dirtvision.com is scheduled to begin at approximately 7pm, EST. Adult (15-64 yrs.) general admission tickets are $20 each, Senior Citizens (65 yrs.+) $18, Students (10-14 yrs) $5 and Children (9 yrs. + under) Free.

Be sure to arrive in town early on Thursday at the Rite Aid Pharmacy on North Main Street in downtown Canandaigua as Steve Paine will be on hand to sign autographs from 12noon-2pm. The popular Rite Aid “cut-away” Modified, free autograph cards and 90 free tickets to the evening’s Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series/Rite Aid 200 Qualifier Race will be the biggest afternoon attractions.
