BRP Late Models, Sportsman Twins Top $20 Carload Nite Card At Canandaigua
Canandaigua, NY – August 6, 2022 – Tom Skibinski, Canandaigua Speedway PR Director
The 2022 DIRTcar Racing points season continues to wind down in wine country and race fans at Canandaigua Speedway can look forward to the second special $20 CARLOAD night backed by Canandaigua Chrysler Dodge on August 11.
DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds are back in the spotlight on Saturday running twin 20-lap features with a special appearance by the BRP Late Model tour stars joining the card. DIRTcar/UMP Street Stock and PureStox divisions will also be in competition during the night that includes a Dogs Day Challenge while the DIRTcar Modifieds have the night off.
Spectator gates will swing open at 5 p.m. with the first qualifying heat rolling off the line promptly at 7 o’clock. Pit gates are slated to unlock at 4 p.m. for all competitors.
Fifteen Sportsman main events have resulted in nine different winners to make this Canandaigua’s most competitive open-wheel division in 2022. Points leader Paul Guererri has used a pair of wins to inch closer to his second crown at the ‘Land of Legends’ in the new millennium with his first registered in ‘03. Points runner-up Dan Wiesner is the winningest Sportsman driver this season with three trips to Canandaigua’s victory lane.
On Saturday night Canandaigua will host the 11th event in the 2022 BRP Late Model Series. Points leader Jeff Chesebro has taken three checkered flags, including one at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in June. Other BRP Series winners to date are Larry Knowles (3), Randy Hall, Steve Dixon, Jim Johnson and Quinn Sutherland. In the BRP Series’ first-ever trip to Canandaigua last summer, Jason Dupont bested a solid field of 34 cars to score his only career win in Ontario County. Full-fender activity continues to be just as fierce at the popular Routes 5&20 oval with Mike Welch (Street Stock) and Marc Minutolo (PureStox) holding comfortable leads in their respective division. Three-time track points champion Welch’s three-race win streak gives him a track-high total of six while Minutolo has cracked the winner’s circle on two occasions in his first full season at the historic half-miler.
When the mighty DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds return to weekend action at the Ontario County Fairgrounds on August 25, the ‘Hurricane’ Steve Paine will be looking to put his yellowbird no. 7x Troyer mount in victory lane for the sixth time. Also at stake will be a DIRTcar NorthEast record eighth straight Big-Block Modified track championship.
Only a handful of shows remain to take advantage of the special 5-PAK ticket packages available for all regular events at Canandaigua and sister track Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y. Providing a great deal for fans, each 5-PAK of tickets can be purchased for $48.00 which results in the receipt of (1) free ticket.
