Canandaigua Stars Eye Caprara Toy Store Street Stock Series Stop On Home Turf
Canandaigua, NY – July 26, 2022 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director
The Caprara Bros. Outdoor Toy Store Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Super Series moves to Canandaigua Speedway on Saturday for round #5 with many of the current top point getters already quite familiar with the historic Ontario County Fairgrounds half-miler.
Super Series points leader Scott Smith ranks second in the Canandaigua weekly standings, with one win each at the fairgrounds and in tour competition at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. Three-time Canandaigua winner Nathan Peckham holds down fourth position on the ‘Land of Legends’ points chart and currently runs fifth in the Mr. DIRTcar Series.
With convincing Street Stock Super Series wins scored in the opening two events at Black Rock and Cayuga County Fair speedways, Mr. DIRTcar runner-up Adam DePuy occupies seventh-place in Canandaigua’s 2022 points chase.
Canandaigua’s points leader Mike Welch will be looking for his fifth checkered flag of the season at the Fairgrounds on Saturday as he defends his home turf against the top tour travelers. Along with Smith, Peckham and DePuy, contending with Welch who stands 11th in the Mr. DIRTcar standings, will be top-five track regulars Blane Smith (3rd, 2 wins) and Andy Fisk (5th, 2 wins) along with second-generation driver Mike Schultz (10th), who ranks eighth in Mr. DIRcar action.
Current top-10 Mr. DIRTcar point chasers Dave Marcuccilli (3rd), Ron Hawker (6th) and 2002 Canandaigua season champion Nick Rizzo (7th) have also competed at the popular Routes 5&20 oval this year. Rizzo copped the tour title event held at Can-Am Motorsports Park last weekend.
The inaugural Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Super Series is comprised of 12 races staged at a half-dozen central New York tracks as well as Can-Am in the northern region. Each of the extra-distance events offers a minimum winner’s share of $500 while the overall Super Series champion stands to collect an additional $1,000 top-prize.
The July 28 show will mark the 14th Street Stock event of the season at Canandaigua, with a return appearance set for Sept. 15. Race action during the final night of the 164th Annual Ontario County Fair gets underway at 7 p.m. sharp while pit gates unlock at 4 p.m. and grandstands open for seating at 5 p.m. An ‘Utterly Unlimitedly Unfair Enduro 77’ Championship, Pro Trucks and a WNYR 98.5 Crazy Chicks-n-Cars Catfight join the Saturday night showdown.
Canandaigua Speedway on the Ontario County Fairgrounds is located just east of the city, with the track being easily accessible by using either Exit 44 (traveling east) or Exit 43 (traveling west) of the New York State Thruway. Additional information can be obtained by calling 585/394-0691 on raceday, during the week by dialing the DIRTcar Racing NorthEast office at 315/834-6606 and logging in anytime to canandaiguaspeedway.com.
