Summer Countdown Continues With DIRTcar NorthEast Regional Points

The race speeds ahead for valuable points towards the lucrative DIRTcar Regional Championships as the third full month of open-wheel action hits the halfway mark.

Pacing the DIRTcar Racing Regional point charts are Jimmy Phelps (Central), Matt Sheppard (Eastern) and Kevin Bolland (Western) in the Big-Blocks ranks, 358-Modified chauffeurs Dave Heaslip (Northern), Chuck McKee (Eastern) and Pete Bicknell (Western), and Chris Higgins (Northern), Shawn Donath (Central) and Don Spatorico (Western) in Sportsman Modified competition.

Rising Big-Block star Phelps is second behind only Danny Johnson (7 wins) with six feature wins, Sheppard has reached victory lane on four occasions and Bolland has taken three checkered flags. Heaslip (3), Bicknell (2) and McKee (1) are all listed with Small-Block wins while Frenchman Yan Bussiere tops the chart after copping six 358-Mod mains. Higgins (7) headlines the Sportsman winner’s circle while Donath (6) stands right behind and Spatorico owns three 1^st-place trophies.

In 2022, DIRTcar-sanctioned tracks hosting Big-Block Modifieds, 358-Modifieds and/or Sportsman Modifieds have been divided into three regions with top-15 teams sharing plenty of cash and memberships rewards in each classification: Mod-$20,175; 358 Mod-$14,175; Spt Mod-$10,800. Regional points will be kept separately and have no direct bearing on any individual track points race.

Respective regional titles in the Big-Block, 358-Mod and Sportsman divisions run through Labor Day Weekend with Regional points officially ending on Monday, September 3. In each of the Regional Championships in all three classes, points will be awarded for the best finishes in DIRTcar-sanctioned feature races, with events held at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park counting toward any region in all divisions.
