Canandaigua, NY – July 9, 2022 – Tom Skibinski, Canandaigua Speedway PR Director

Track management sends out a personal invitation for all race fans to attend Barney & Betty Night presented by Fox’s Auto at Canandaigua Speedway on Saturday July 14, although only those named Betty and Barney will be admitted free to the fairgrounds.

A full program featuring the mighty DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks and PureStox plus a Dr. McDreamy Look-a-Like Contest fill out the Saturday show with qualifying race action taking the first green flag at 7 p.m. sharp. Pit gates unlock at 4 p.m. and grandstand gates swing open at 5 p.m.

Open-wheel upstart Derrick Podisadlo completed his rapid rise to the top in memorable fashion last weekend, out-distancing all-time Canandaigua points champion Steve Paine to score his first career DIRTcar Modified victory at the ‘Land of Legends’ speed resort. Paine still maintains a commanding lead in search of a DIRT-record eighth straight Big-Block crown at Canandaigua with four feature wins posted in his potent new Troyer mount.

Weekly warriers Chuck Bower (1 win) and Charlie Donk (2) are in closest pursuit of Paine, followed by Penn Yan’s Podsiadlo and 2022 DIRTcar Big-Block rookie of the year contender Russ Hefti with second-year Big-Block chauffeur Chad Homan, 24, looking to have a break-out year.

Each with one victory to their credit, Paul Guererri and Loren Lincoln continue to pace the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified ranks. Right on their heels is Danny Wiesner, the winningest Sportsman driver at the Ontario County Fairgrounds oval in ’07 with three checkered flags. Consistency has kept Eric Giguere in the hunt while Tim Currier’s lone win has propelled him into a top-five position in the points standings after dozen main events.

Three-time track UMP/DIRTcar Street Stock champion Mike Welch has opened up his biggest points lead of the season over weekly rival Blane Smith with Scott Smith and Doug Smith challenging for their first-ever track crown. Rookie Marc Minutolo has mirrored Welch’s success in the PureStox division, increasing his margin to nearly 50 markers over Corey Hunt and George LaVare Jr.in the entry-level full-fender class.

5-PAK ticket packages remain available for all regular events at Canandaigua and sister track Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y.
