Patriots Sprint To Ontario Co. Fairgrounds For Canandaigua Speedway Special

The ASCS Patriot Sprint Car Series makes a return to Canandaigua Speedway on Saturday, June 30 for the first of two A-Verdi King of CNY events in 2022 at one of the Patriots’ staple race tracks. Round two is slated for Aug. 18.
The winged Patriot machines headline the DIRTcar Racing card at Canandaigua, joining a full show of Sportsman Modifieds, Street Stocks and PureStox on Coca-Cola Disco Night at the Races. DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds will be out of town contending in round two of the F.X. Caprara Car Companies-Dig Safely New York ‘Five-Star’ Series.
All kids 14 and under are invited to take part in a free Polyester Disco Dance Contest! Ontario County Fairgrounds’ spectator gates swing open at 5 p.m. on Saturday with the first qualifying heat rolling off the line promptly at 7 o’clock. Pit gates are slated to unlock at 4 p.m. for all competitors.
Ontario’s Chuck Hebing swept the opening two Patriot Sprint A-Mains held in May and Canandaigua hosts the fourth event in the unique seven-race series sponsored by A-Verdi Storage Containers. Continuing to shadow Hebing in the standings are Bryan Howland and Jason Barney, who are both just 10 markers behind the “Cobra.”
’03 Canandaigua points champion Paul Guererri has vaulted to the top of the Sportsman standings with one win to his credit although nearest challengers Eric Giguere and Loren Lincoln remain in search of their first trip to victory lane. Fourth-place runner Dan Wiesner is the hottest driver at the track with three wins to date, ranking ahead of front-five wheelman Tim Currier (1 win).
Champions abound in the highly competitive Street Stock class as three-time points king Mike Welch (2003-05) clings to a narrow advantage over defending titlist Blane Smith, each with a pair of feature wins in the ‘Land of Legends’ top full-fender division. Second-generation chauffeur Marc Minutolo (2 wins) continues to pace the PureStox at the popular Routes 5&20 oval, holding a comfortable lead over Corey Hunt (1 win) and George LaVare Jr.
5-PAK ticket packages continue to be available for all regular events at Canandaigua and sister track Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y. Providing a great deal for fans, each 5-PAK of tickets can be purchased for $48.00 which results in the receipt of (1) free ticket. The regular show admission is just $12 for adults (15-64 yrs.), $10 for Seniors (65 yrs. & older) and $5 for youths (10-14 yrs.) while children 9 yrs. & under are free.
Canandaigua Speedway on the Ontario County Fairgrounds is located just east of the city, with the track being easily accessible by using either Exit 44 (traveling east) or Exit 43 (traveling west) of the New York State Thruway.
