Weedsport, NY – June 24, 2022 - By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director
DIRTcar Big-Block Modified veteran Pat Ward will be looking for his second straight win when Fulton Speedway hosts round #2 of the F.X. Caprara Car Companies-Dig Safely New York ‘Five-Star’ Series on Saturday, June 30.
Ward, already a winner of eight DIRTcar Big-Block features at Fulton during the past three seasons, got off to a fast start by capturing the 5* opener at Can-Am Motorsports Park on June 2.
With his lead-off victory, Ward is first in line to collect the top prize in the season-ending ‘Five-Star’ Series points fund that awards the winner $1,000 with the top-10 sharing in the $3,025 total pot. Points are maintained using the traditional DIRTcar NorthEast championship race format figuring in 100 points to win and 40 points to start each featured event.
Ward led the entire 35-lap distance at Can-Am, taking the checkered flag ahead of Gary Tomkins to pocket $2,000 from the $8,700 total purse. Pat O’Brien, Danny Johnson, Tim O’Brien, Steve Paine, Vic Coffey, Justin Haers, Frankie Caprara and Scott Parliament filled out the top-10 feature finishers to head the current point standings.
Canandaigua Speedway hosts race number three on July 21 while Rolling Wheels Raceway Park (July 22) and Cayuga County Fair Speedway (August 19) close out the inaugural ‘Five-Star’ schedule. Double points are on the line for Big-Block Modified teams competing at Cayuga County on Aug. 19 as the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series Hall of Fame Classic rained out on May 27 will now be the F.X. Caprara -Dig Safely NY ‘Five-Star’ Series finale at The Port.
The show at Canandaigua runs on Saturday with Rolling Wheels and Cayuga County specials held on Sundays. When the series arrives at one of the three Saturday sites, Big-Blocks are not scheduled to run at either of the other two, providing a great opportunity for track regulars to visit other facilities and take on their best.
