DIRTcar Big-Block Modified 'Five-Star' Series Off To Fast Start Weedsport, NY - June 5, 2022 - By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director The F.X. Caprara Car Companies-Dig Safely New York 'Five-Star' Series for DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds got off to a fast start when veteran Pat Ward captured the lead-off event at Can-Am Motorsports Park on June 3. Fulton Speedway hosts round number two on June 30, while Canandaigua Speedway (July 21), Rolling Wheels Raceway Park (July 22) and Cayuga County Fair Speedway (August 19) comprise the inaugural 'Five-Star' schedule. Shows at Fulton and Canandaigua run on Saturdays with Rolling Wheels and Cayuga County specials held on Sundays. When the series arrives at one of the three Saturday sites, Big-Blocks are not scheduled to run at either of the other two, providing a great opportunity for track regulars to visit other facilities and take on their best. "Working closely with our area promoters we've now successfully established three levels of competition for the Big-Block Modifieds," said DIRTcar Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Cory Reed. "The standard fare is our DIRTcar Weekly Racing along with the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series which remains our premier traveling tour. New this year is the Five Star mini-series that serves to promote our own core big-block tracks and the drivers that support them." With his opening round victory, Ward stakes an early claim to the season-ending 'Five-Star' Series points fund that awards the winner $1,000 with the top-10 sharing in the $3,025 total pot. Points are maintained using the traditional DIRTcar NorthEast championship race format figuring in 100 points to win and 40 points to start each featured event. In Can-Am's recent Five Star Modified feature, Ward led the entire 35 lap distance, taking the checkered flag ahead of Gary Tomkins to pocket $2,000 from the $8,700 raceday purse. Pat O'Brien, Danny Johnson, Tim O'Brien, Steve Paine, Vic Coffey, Justin Haers, Frankie Caprara and Scott Parliament filled out the final top-10.
