DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds Return Saturday To Canandaigua Speedway Canandaigua, NY - June 4, 2022 - Tom Skibinski, Canandaigua Speedway PR Director After a week off in lieu of the Five Star Modified Series opener in the north country, the DIRTcar Big-Blocks return to Canandaigua Speedway on June 9. The full show of DIRTcar racing is filled by Sportsman Modifieds, Street Stocks and PureStox on Currier Plastics-Dukes of Hazzard Night at the Ontario County Fairgrounds, with a special appearance by the ESDCA Mod Lites plus Dukes, Boss & Daisy Look-a-Likes further raising the entertainment value. Spectator gates will swing open at 5 p.m. on Saturday with the first qualifying heat rolling off the line promptly at 7 o'clock. Pit gates are slated to unlock at 4 p.m. for all competitors. The mighty ground-pounding Big-Blocks are back and so is the 'Hurricane' Steve Paine as he blows into town looking to score his fourth consecutive feature win at the hallowed 'Land of Legends' speedplant. Despite his recent dominance in wine country, Paine leads runner-up and still winless Chuck Bower by just two points with week two winner Charlie Donk in close pursuit. The talent pool continues to grow as young guns Derrick Podsiadlo (5th), Chad Homan (7th) and Mike Johnson (9th) hold down top-10 spots in the standings after a handful of main events. Through seven Sportsman features only points leader and defending Canandaigua season champion Todd Henderson has managed to repeat his run to the checkered flag. A pair of runner-up tallies by Paul Guererri in the Twin 20s last Saturday moved the 2003 Canandaigua points king solidly back into the hunt with Eric Giguere and first-time winner Tim Currier contending for third position on the points chart. During the past weekend the full-fender divisions also witnessed the first two-time winners after a half-dozen events staged this year at the popular Routes 5&20 oval. Blane Smith posted his second win and moved back out front of three-time track points champion Mike Welch in the Street Stock standings while veteran Les Excell logged win number two in the PureStox ranks to hold a narrow advantage over second-generation chauffeur Marc Minutolo. 5-PAK ticket packages continue to be available for all regular events at Canandaigua and sister track Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y. Providing a great deal for fans, each 5-PAK of tickets can be purchased for $48.00 which results in the receipt of (1) free ticket. The regular show admission is just $12 for adults (15-64 yrs.), $10 for Seniors (65 yrs. & older) and $5 for youths (10-14 yrs.) while children 9 yrs. & under are free.
