Canandaigua Speedway Geared Up For 44th Season Opener On Saturday

The long winter wait is finally over for race fans in Ontario County as Canandaigua Speedway opens for the 44th season of auto racing on April 14 with a big show of DIRTcar Big-Block Modified, Sportsman and Street Stock action headlining the Saturday bill. Gates open at 3 p.m. and racing begins at 5 p.m. The adult general admission ticket price is $12 for all regular shows, $10 for Seniors (65 yrs. plus) and $5 for children (10-14 yrs.) while those 9 years and under are free.

 

Fans and race teams get their first glimpse of the historic Ontario Co. Fairgrounds oval when Canandaigua opens for warm-ups for all divisions on Thr., April 12 with practice slated to start at 5 p.m. Grandstand general admission is free to the public. A reminder that 5-PAK ticket packages will be available for all regular events at Canandaigua, each providing a great deal for fans. Every 5-PAK of tickets can be purchased for $48.00 which results in the receipt of (1) free ticket.

 

On Saturday a lead-off 35-lap feature for the area Big-Block stars begins the charter member track's annual celebration, with 2022 marking the 31st year of continuous operation under the DIRTcar Racing banner. The ’06 lid-lifter was a sure sign of things to come as eventual track champions Steve Paine (Mod), Todd Henderson (Spt) and Blane Smith (Sts) claimed opening night honors.

 

DIRTcar record-setting seven-time defending Canandaigua Modified champion Paine will be returning aboard his familiar no. 7x TEO mount, carrying major sponsorship from Tallmadge Tire, Terrell's Potato Chips and Swarthout Recycling. Paine will have to hold off touring stars Gary Tomkins and Vic Coffey, local favorite Charlie Donk and Big-Block rookie Russ Hefti if he hopes to continue his reign as Advance Auto Parts Modified points king at the popular half-mile 'Land of Legends' speedplant.

 

Canandaigua Speedway is located on County Road10 at the Ontario County Fairgrounds, just 1-1/2-miles north of Routes 5&20, and is easily accessible from the NYS Thruway (I-90), taking Exit 43 from the west or Exit 44 from the east.
