Fresh Formula Finalized For Determining Mr. DIRT Champions In 2022
Weedsport, NY – March 4, 2022 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRT NorthEast PR Director
The title of overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRT Champion continues to be recognized as one of the most prestigious designations a driver can hold in auto racing today. In 2022, the Mr. DIRT Champions will be determined by tabulating points earned in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series for Big-Block Modifieds and the Mr. DIRT Championship Series for 358-Modified, Sportsman and Pro Stock teams along with bonuses collected in each of the four divisional DIRT Regional Racing Series.
“The four touring series still account for the bulk of the points towards each Mr. DIRT title yet individual home track bonus points will not be figured into this year’s totals,” said DIRT MotorSports NorthEast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Cory Reed. “Only the points earned in a specific region go towards the regional point funds, however, drivers are allowed to get their mandatory starts across all regions to collect bonus points for Mr. DIRT.”
Along with earning valuable points in their respective series throughout the season, each driver must attempt to qualify for a minimum of twelve (12) weekly DIRT-sanctioned events in the same class. Drivers will receive 1200 bonus points towards the overall Mr. DIRT Championship if they reach 12 regional races started. That total will decrease by 100 points for each start less than 12. (i.e. if a driver attempts to qualify for only 10 DIRT Regional Racing Series events that driver receives 1000 bonus points, five starts = 500 points, etc.)
Last season over 200 drivers in the Advance Auto Parts DIRT Modified, 358-Modified, Sportsman and Pro Stock classes were rewarded with more than $423,000 in cash and contingencies at the DIRTcar NE Banquet. A grand total of $246,680 in awards were handed out in the Big-Block Modified ranks alone and with the addition of a Regional Racing Series fund in ’07, DIRTcar continues to boast the most lucrative regional post-season awards program for weekly teams in the country.
