Big-Block Modifieds To Share In 2022 DIRTcar Regional Point Fund Awards
Weedsport, NY – March 3, 2022 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRT NorthEast PR Director
DIRTcar officials developed a regional points program last season that offered further incentive for weekly racers with over $48,000 distributed to more than 100 different drivers. In 2022, Big-Block Modified teams will also be part of the recently expanded DIRTcar points program with a regional fund of their own.
“As part of the transition to DIRTcar we have brought the same type of rich rewards common in the late model and UMP modified worlds under our sister organization, UMP DIRTcar,” said Executive VP Operations Ben Giesler. “Big-Block Modified drivers will for the first time ever have the opportunity to race for regional point funds outside of the boundaries of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series and their local track championships. While rewarding all of the top Big-Block teams in three regions, these point funds will provide opportunities for the top touring drivers to replace the track champion bonus funds typically earned by them in the past. And the addition of regional rewards will offer further incentive to race at DIRTcar-sanctioned facilities on a weekly basis when not chasing the Advance Auto Parts SDS.”
In 2022, DIRTcar-sanctioned tracks hosting Big-Block Modifieds have been divided into three regions with teams searching for a piece of the $20,175 pie. Licensed drivers will compete against others within their own region for a series point fund that will reward $6,725 to the top-15 in each. The regional points will be kept separately and they have no direct bearing on any individual track points race.
“Along with track and overall Mr. DIRT point fund awards, DIRTcar Regional Championships will also be on the line for Big-Block Modified teams during the 2022 season,” said DIRT Motorsports Northeast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Cory Reed. “DIRT remains the leading short-track organization in the country and the addition of Regional Racing Series funds in ’07 continues to make it the most lucrative regional post-season awards program for weekly teams found anywhere. Heading into the future there’s a lot at stake for drivers and teams competing in every division. By continuing to spread the wealth throughout the ranks, the regional format will help all of our tracks and race teams while getting more racers involved over time.”
In each of the three Regional Championships, points will be awarded for the best finishes (12 in East, 15 in West, 20 in Central) in DIRTcar-sanctioned Big-Block events. Legal events may be of any distance and may be either home track point events, part of a special mini-series or special events at tracks within that region. Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series events will not count except at Rolling Wheels Raceway, where all events count for any region. Regional points will end on Monday, September 4, 2022.
