Full-Fender Divisions Take On New Definition At Canandaigua Speedway

Canandaigua, NY – Jan. 22, 2022 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRT NorthEast PR Director

The 2022 season at Canandaigua Speedway is guaranteed to offer a great mix of short-track competition every Saturday night with national, regional and local bragging rights on the line during each action-packed four star show. Once again headlining the full-fender program will be the Expert Street Stock division, now referred to as DIRTcar Street Stocks. The former Novice Street Stock division for beginners has been tagged as the PureStox class.

“The Expert Street Stocks have undergone some rule changes in alignment with DIRTcar on a national scale,” said Canandaigua General Manager Jack Deery. “All that is different with our own PureStox from last year is the name change from Novice to PureStox. There is a distinct separation in rules between our full-fender classes and we want to make those differences clear from day one.”

The name change to DIRTcar Street Stock due to the establishment of the all-encompassing ‘DIRTcar Racing’ title will give DIRT MotorSports track affiliates in other areas of the country a general blueprint to market their popular weekly racing series more aggressively. In 2022 the national DIRTcar Street Stock point fund will pay a minimum of $3,000 and reward the top-20 places while the New York State point fund boasts at least $500 to the champion.

Introduced as a true entry-level division at Canandaigua in 2006, the PureStox class has grown dramatically with numbers expected to double during the upcoming race season. The response by competing teams has been positive and the rules have been left untouched in favor of further building on this grassroots class.

“The upcoming season marks a renewed interest in entry-level racing on the DIRT circuit while it continues to support divisions that have been the backbone of our traditional traveling series over the years,” Deery added. “Our top touring divisions will continue to chase their coveted Mr. DIRT Championships in the Northeast and we recently vaulted the Street Stocks to a new national level with point funds plus added recognition on the line. And while DIRT MotorSports is now viewed on a much grander scale, we’re still able to focus on those rules which have been put in place at Central New York tracks for the PureStox racers that are vital to our growth in the future. We want to emphasize the fact that grassroots racing will always be the foundation of what we are building on.”
