Off-Track Incident Resolved at Canandaigua Speedway Weedsport, NY – May 4, 2006 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRT NorthEast PR Director As a result of a post-race, off-track, incident that occurred at Canandaigua Speedway on April 29, 2006, and after a thorough hearing conducted by the DIRT MotorSports (“DIRT”) NorthEast Appellate Panel on May 4, DIRT has imposed a $500 fine and one-week suspension on Justin Haers for an infraction of rule 9.5 of the Modified 2006 Rule Book. “DIRT is deeply committed to preserving the integrity of the sport and takes all instances of violence, whether on or off the track, very seriously”, said DIRT NE General Manager, Tonya Moschell. “DIRT has a zero tolerance policy for violence at its races and sanctioned tracks and will take swift and decisive action against those individuals who engage in unsportsmanlike behavior.” Upon receiving a formal letter of appeal following the April incident from Mr. Haers, DIRT NE Appellate Panel members listened to testimony provided by numerous witnesses of the incident to reach the decision regarding the alleged altercation. Haers’ one-week suspension from competition at all DIRT-sanctioned tracks began with his absence from Cayuga County Fair Speedway on Sunday, April 30. Haers will be eligible for participation in DIRT-sanctioned events beginning on May 7, 2006. Appellate Panel Chairman Dave Stevens noted that he was thoroughly impressed by the work of the DIRT officials and appreciated the testimony and cooperation of all witnesses and parties concerned. “While we hope not to receive many appeals during the course of the race season, the Panel is fully prepared should the need arise to address and resolve any issues in dispute.” “DIRT fully supports the decision of the Appellate Panel and appreciates the dedication to the sport of dirt track racing that each and every member contributes,” said DIRT’s General Counsel, Dan Malasky. “At the conclusion of the hearing, one theme was prevalent among all who were involved in the altercation -- let’s put this behind us and get back to racing.” The DIRT MotorSports™ Advance Auto Parts Modified Series is brought to fans across the Northeast by several sponsors and partners, including series sponsors Advance Auto Parts, Hoosier Racing Tire and Sunoco Race Fuels.
