Canandaigua & Cayuga County Offer Heat Race Points In Open-Wheel Divisions

Weedsport, NY – April 3, 2006 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRT NorthEast PR Director

A little more will be at stake for Modified and Sportsman teams attempting to qualify for main events this season at DIRT MotorSports NorthEast charter member tracks Canandaigua and Cayuga County Fair speedways. For the first time under the DIRT regime, points will be awarded to top finishers in each heat race at both tracks.

“Whenever points are involved, the competition gets tighter and this should make an even better show for the fans from the drop of the first green flag,” said Cayuga County Competition Director Chip Burdick. “The goal of every team is a track championship so just settling for a qualifying spot won’t cut it any more with valuable points on the line.”

Mirroring the format recently for implemented for the Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRT Series, the top-three finishers in each heat race this year at Canandaigua and Cayuga County will be awarded additional bonus points as follows: 1st-5 pts, 2nd-3 pts, 3rd-1 pt. Regular track points start with 60 for the winner and offer 20 to start.

In addition, the top-5 finishers (1st-5 pts, 2nd-4 pts, 3rd-3 pts, 4th-2 pts, 5th-1 pt.) in the 4-Cylinder Enduro class at Cayuga County will earn points and at the end of the season a divisional champion will be crowned for the first time.

Cayuga County's 2006 season begins with an 'Open House' practice for all divisions beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 8. The $1,000-to-win 'Spring Green 100' 4&6 Cylinder Enduro Championship takes the green flag for 100 laps of non-stop full-fender action at 4 p.m. CCFS officially swings into high-gear Sunday, April 9 as the headline big-block DIRT Modifieds are scheduled to run a $3,000-to-win 50-lapper with Sportsman and Street Stock classes joining the 2 o'clock card.

Canandaigua Speedway opens for the 43rd season of stock car racing for DIRT Modified, Sportsman and Street Stock classes on Saturday, April 15. Gates open at 3 p.m. and racing begins at 5 p.m. A special warm-up session for all divisions is slated for Wed., April 12 starting at 5 p.m. with general admission free to the public starting at 3 o’clock.
