CANANDAIGUA BANQUET FOR PRO STOCK,SPORTSMAN AND STREET STOCK DIVISIONS The 2005 Banquet for the pro stock, sportsman and street stock divisions was held at the Lyons VFW on October 29th. Chuck and Cheryl Brownell hosted the gala event with over 150 fans, owners, drivers, mechanics, officials along with members of the Safety crew enjoying the nights activities. The top 5 in each division received trophies compliments of DIRT: Sportsman 1st Scott Schrader, 2nd Paul Guererri, 3rd Dan Wiesner, 4th Loren Lincoln 5th Eric Giguere Pro Stock: 1st Jipp Ortiz, 2nd Chad Homan, 3rd James Henry, 4th Daryl Hilkert, 5th JJ Rutkowski Street Stock: 1st Mike Welch 2nd Blane Smith 3rd Nick Rizzo 4th Nathan Peckham 5th Mike Minutolo Special awards: Sportsman..Rookie of the Year Eric Giguere - Most Improved Gus Hurlburt - Hard Luck Justin Henderson Pro Stock: Sportsmanship Award James Henry - Most Improved Matt Grube - Rookie of the Year Doug Smith Street Stock: Rookie of the Year Mike Schultz - most Improved Steve Faulkner - Hard Luck Kevin Collins - Sportsmanship Dandino Race Team Beat appearing car awards voted on those in attendance: Sportsman Scott Schrader - Pro Stock James Henry - Street Stock Blane Smith DIRT also provided 2006 DIRT Licenses for the winners in each class for the contest held every year. In 2005 the top 5 drivers of each division competed in elimination rounds in a "mechanics creeper race" The drivers sat on the creeper and had to complete one lap in competition against one other driver. The track champion got a by round until the final feature The drivers feet were not allowed to touch the ground, or they had to return to the starting line and begin again. The drivers had to use two plungers to propel themselves around the track. Winners were: Sportsman Eric Giguere Street Stock Blane Smith and Pro Stock James Henry A special 50/50 is held each year with all proceeds given back to the participants monetarily Also given away is a 2006 Canandaigua Speedway Season Pass won by Mike Minutolo. and an Earnhardt quilt donated by Mary Stetzel was won by Debbie Drave. These were 2nd and third prizes offered with the 50/50 The annual Fred Taney Memorial award given to someone dedicated to auto racing was awarded to Gary Spaid.
