Canandaigua Speedway Loses Saturday Show To Rain
By Gary M. Spaid, DIRT MotorSports PR

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (July 16) – Fans were disappointed as the skies opened up during the pre-race hot lap session, forcing track officials to cancel the night of racing at Canandaigua Speedway.

It had been Parts Plus Auto Stores Autograph night. Gates opened at 3:30 p.m. under hot and humid conditions and over 30 cars assembled in the grandstand paddock area, allowing fans full access to their favorite cars and drivers. Many of the race teams passed out pictures and race cards to the fans.

At 6:20 p.m. the track was open for practice. Super smooth and fast track conditions greeted the racers as the track crew worked extremely hard under the humid conditions to prepare an excellent racing surface.

As the final practice session for DIRT Modifieds was on the track the skies opened up and rain began to fall.

“We were not going to be able to stand too much rain as the humid conditions would be working against us getting the track back,” stated stand in manager Gary Spaid. “Once the rains picked up and I had a chance to look at the radar it was a no-brainer. We were done.”

Rain checks will be honored this coming Saturday, July 23 and on Saturday August 6. They can not be used during the Ontario County Fair, July 30.

Racing returns this Saturday, July 23, starting at 7 p.m. with a full program of DIRT Modified, Sportsman, Pro Stock/Super Stock and Street Stock action.
