RAINS AND WET GROUNDS BRING HALT TO CANANDAIGUA SPEEDWAY'S ADVANCE AUTO PARTS SUPER DIRT SERIES RACE CANANDAIGUA, NY...Last Thursday, August 12, was to have seen the "Cars and Stars" from the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series take center stage at the historic half mile Canandaigua Speedway. Wet grounds caused from a day long consistent rain forced officials to cancel the event which was to have been hosted by both Honeoye Auto Parts and Turner Automotive. There will be no makeup date for this event. "We are very disappointed," stated track general manager Jeff Farney. "Officials at DIRT Headquarters notified me that the grounds were just too wet and the forecast of 50% more rain throughout the evening was just too much and they were to pull the plug on the event." The race card was to have included the big-block DIRT Modifieds in time trials, heats and feature, plus Pro-Stocks in a regular 20-lap feature. "We still have the Turning Stone Casino Resorts 358-Modified Series coming to town on Wednesday, August 25," added Farney. "Besides the stars from the Advance Auto Parts big-blocks will all be here for the 'DIRT Champions Challenge' race on Sunday, September 26." This latter event is part of the Legends Weekend, September 25-26. On Saturday the 358-Modified will make their second appearance of the year in a 100-lap series qualifier, along with the DIRT Sportsman and Pro-Stocks in Western Regional Championship events. Sunday will see the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series Champions Challenge go to the line for a 100-lap event. Also added to Sunday's race card is the B.O.S.S. Series for Street Stocks. The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series now heads south to Delaware Speedway on Tuesday, August 17. From there the series moves the next day to the Grandview Speedway. |
