be a sure wash out late Saturday afternoon, the sun and blue
skies came out at the Canandaigua Speedway. Unfortunately, the
severe shower that passed through early in the night left the
‘Land of Legends’ oval in rough shape and eventually forced race

patience and aggressiveness Saturday night in the
Summit Auto 35-lap DIRTcar Big-Block Modified main
event at Canandaigua Speedway. Tomkins started 16th,
and didn’t reach the top five until lap-22, but the
Clifton Springs pilot knew when to hit the ‘go
button’ as the no. 84 machine blasted into the lead
on lap-27 and never looked back.

Canandaigua Speedway had not treated Justin Haers
very well in the early part of the season. Finishes
of 18th and 17th in the
opening two events were certainly not characteristic
results for the Phelps Cement Products no. 3.
However, Saturday May, 17 on Race against
Drugs/Fireman Appreciation Night at the Races, Haers
used his front row starting position to his
advantage leading all 35-laps on the way to
victory. Haers’ second career Canandaigua Speedway
win was worth $1,500, but more importantly a
confidence boost for the Phelps, NY pilot.

Several severe storms and high winds forced
officials to call it quits at Canandaigua Speedway
Saturday, April 26 at around 4pm. The severe
weather pushed in from the mid-west and hammered
western and central New York.
“We tried our best to wait out the storms this
weekend, but it was a losing battle,” said
Canandaigua Speedway General Manager, Jack Deery.
“Once you lose the racetrack it makes for a very
